The Bergamo area, thanks to its environmental characteristics and its geographic position, has been a very important area of passage of great strategic importance over the centuries for many populations of the time.
The province has naturally undergone in time countless invasions and dominations, following which many fortifications, with impressive towers, deep moats and massive drawbridges were built.
The different castles, once built exclusively for purposes of defence, have changed their role in time, trying to take greatest advantage of the resources of the surrounding territory and adapting their structure to a civil and no longer military use, such as a country residence.
For this reason, the province of Bergamo is still an area rich in fortified structures, old feudal castles, walled villages and homes of the nobility that still have all the appeal and mystery that have characterized them in the course of history.
