The Bergamo area is rich in varied and flavoursome gastronomic products: from cheeses to pastries, from salamis to polenta. The culinary offer satisfies every palate and rarely leaves you unsatisfied. The classic first courses in the Bergamo area are: “Casonsèi de la bergamasca” and “Scarpinocc de Par”, made with fresh pasta they are real delicacies for the lovers of good food. The Bergamo area has always been the land of polenta, in the classic version or “taragna” (made from buckwheat flour and served with the excellent cheeses of our dairy tradition), which is served with game or stews. For those with a sweet tooth, the temptations are many: Biscotti di Clusone, coated with chocolate; the biscuits of San Pellegrino; the well known “polenta e osèi” from Bergamo and its region made with sponge cake and butter, chocolate and hazelnut cream, the cake of Treviglio and the Donizetti Gateau. Oil from the Sebino region accompanies the traditional dishes. It is produced in a large area which surrounds Lake Iseo from north to south. The offer of wines is also varied and prestigious, especially in the hill area which goes from the river Adda to Lake Iseo (the area of the Calepio Valley). The Calepio Valley has represented the renaissance of wine-making in the Bergamo region, especially in the early 1970s, when the vines were skilfully selected which led, in 1976, to the award of the prestigious DOC (designation of controlled origin) to RED, WHITE and MOSCATO PASSITO wines.
