Lake Endine PDF Print E-mail

About six kilometres long, Lake Endine is the most significant environmental element of the Cavallina Valley. Together with the tiny lake of Gaiano, it reflects with splendid chromatic effects the surrounding landscape and the lakeside villages of Spinone al Lago (Romanesque church of St-. Peter), Monasterolo del Castello (medieval castle with garden), Ranzanico (oratory of St. Bernardino), Endine Gaiano (church of St. George with paintings by Carpinoni) and their numerous hamlets.
Rich in wild life concealed amongst the reeds, the lake is characterized by the presence of magnificent expanses of water lilies; it is popular with countless fishermen for the generosity of its waters which are not disturbed by motorboats, but only by sailing boats, canoes and pedalos.
Together with the fish, the phenomenon of transhumance of the bufo-bufo toads is a precious biological resource, protected and studied attentively by the local communities and expert naturalists.
In particularly harsh winters the waters freeze, creating a unique sight at such low altitudes (around 350 metres above sea level).
The silent and peaceful, almost cosy, atmosphere, together with the serene and gentle surrounding landscape, makes the lake of the Cavallina Valley a place of extraordinary tourist and environmental value.
